I have tried all the tricks that I knew or could think of. Nothing
helped or evn showed me the way to go.

Instead, I am now using a workaround: the first window with graphics
that is opened is not closed and destroyed but instead it is hidden.

This works - I am not completely convinced this will be acceptable,
but at least it allows me to go on.
