You do know that to generate a .so library with gcc on a 64 bit (AMD64 or IA64) system you MUST compile the code with -fPIC right? Any code that needs compiling and is designed to work on both systems should that as a flag. It isn't required for the 32 bit systems but it won't change anything if it is.
