No

When I go to the famlist.php I see the row of possibilites as I expect.

?|A|B|C| ... |Y|Z|(unknown)|ALL

If I then click the "all", I get the column listing

(None)
?
Add...
Al...
Av...

and so on

The links for all the names work except for the first one.

The ? for instance links to
...phpgedview/famlist.php?surname=%3F

The Add... links to
.../phpgedview/famlist.php?surname=ADD...

But the (None) links to
...phpgedview/famlist.php?alpha=,

The Spouses column shows the number 220 for (None), but clicking the link brings up no table.

Elsewhere I believe the link is
alpha=%40
rather than
alpha=,

Oh ... and shouldn't (None) be (unknown) for consistency?

    So now to convert the @N.N. that shows in the resulting table into "unknown" or "?" or ...

    Looking forward to the speed hike later tonight.

    Already done. Just SVN-update to the next version.

    SVN 4719 (after a re-import too)

    Hmmm ... when I click the ALL, the resulting table now starts with
    1 ... Abell ... 1
    2 ... Adair ... 1
    3 ... Adams ... 4

    with no "unknown", "?" or "@N.N." row at all.

    The great news is that the execution time for the whole page is now 4.2 seconds.

    <<with no "unknown", "?" or "@N.N." row at all.>>

    That is by design/request. Unknown isn't a surname, and is handled differently to the other letters, and to ALL.
