Yes, this is a recurring issue. Extra tags present in the source segment are detected. Extra tags not present in the source segment (note they are not greyed out, as they are not recognised as protected text) are not detected.

In ODF files the situation is as follows:
(OmegaT 3.1.0, SVN)
With DOCX files tag validation behaves the same as with ODF
This issue seems to be introduced in version 3.0.6. Earlier versions seems to validate the tags properly.

This is addressed in trunk (r7660).
Fixed in the relased version 3.5.2 of OmegaT.

It seems that the problem is reoccuring in 4.1.1 and trunk, the extra tags are not flagged as errors.
