I'd also love to see this feature - in fact, as an album-oriented collector (as opposed to many who just collect tracks), I strongly believe this is the appropriate default.

It's not just for Various Artists collections (which can easily be handled as a special case). There are many albums out there that for different reasons have differing track artists but a single album artist. Eg. Blackie and the Rodeo Kings "Kings and Queens" features different collaborators on each track along with the main artist (see https://musicbrainz.org/release/2a235ab5-e23f-472a-8c5b-cbbe5b3c1a58 ). A perhaps better known album along this vein is Tony Bennett's "Duets: An American Classic" (see https://musicbrainz.org/release/fef4f392-941f-4e1f-824f-1981f8b5f318 ).

Many compilations featuring an artist's work in earlier bands, such as Neil Young's Decade ( https://musicbrainz.org/release/d958f6f1-cabc-4049-be4c-a046bc6ca90e ) also show this tendency to have multiple track artists that don't match the album artist.
