I can't get any embedded plots they all starts in a new
window. Can someone help me with this problem?
I got the latest version of maxima and xmaxima on an
Ubuntu/linux dist. with gnuplot.

Fixed in Maxima CVS.  Now Xmaxima automatically executes 
set_plot_option([plot_format,openmath]) if embeded plot
style is selected or on Xmaxima start-up if such plot
style is saved as user preference.

Currently, embedded plots will not work with gnuplot.
Try:
set_plot_option([plot_format,openmath]);

I've renamed this item (used to be "") and changed the
resolution to "None" since this is a bug, on second thought.

When the user selects the embedded plots radio button,
Xmaxima should set the plot_format to openmath, since
otherwise embedded plots won't work. 

I don't know if Xmaxima should try to remember the current
plot_format in case the user changes back to separate or
multiple plots.

In addition to selecting the menu option for embedded plots,
you also need

  set_plot_options ([plot_format, openmath]);

Otherwise Maxima still generates gnuplot plots (the
default). Dunno if Xmaxima should set the plot_format to
openmath by default.

This problem isn't a bug, but let's leave this report open
for a few days, in case the person who reported it checks back.
