Category: Documentation Group: Fix for 5.9.2 Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: van_Nek (van_nek) Assigned to: Vadim V. Zhytnikov (vvzhy) Summary: wgnuplot.hlp is demaged Initial Comment: In the Windows-version of maxima there is the help file wgnuplot.hlp, which differs (viewed by a hex editor) in a few characters in the first seven lines from the original wgnuplot.hlp in package gp400win32.zip. The result is, that the wgnuplot.hlp in ./Maxima/bin cannot be used. (Tested on several Windows 2000 computers) Please preplace this file. I have got this modified help file again. So I draw the conclusion, that wgnuplot.hlp is modified during compressing or decompressing maxima-5.9.1.9rc2ic5.exe by the installation setup program. Secondly I can state, that the modified file works on XP but not on 2000 Volker ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Vadim V. Zhytnikov (vvzhy) Date: 2005-09-27 06:24 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=366498 Let me collect te facts: 1. I've got original wgnuplot.hlp file from gp400win32.zip. I've double checkrd this. I can browse this help file - it seems to be perfectly OK. 2. I've checked that after installation on Windows XP and Me wgnuplot.hlp is the same as original byte to byte. As far as I understand you have the same result on Windows XP computer. This proves that the file packged inside maxima-5.9.1.9rc2.exe is OK. 3. The only logical conclusion is that in certain circumsnances wgnuplot.hlp get damaded during installation due to a. bug in Inno Setup b. bug in Windows 2000 c. some other software which runs during installation Today I'll try to reproduce the problem on Windows 2000 machine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: van_Nek (van_nek) Date: 2005-09-26 23:30 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1269745 Hello Vadim, I have tried the rc2ic5.exe, but the your wgnuplot.hlp stays the same. I wonder where you got it. I just downloaded gp400win32.zip. There is definitely a different file in there. Have a look at the first seven lines. So why dont you choose the file from the gnuplot package? Volker ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Vadim V. Zhytnikov (vvzhy) Date: 2005-09-26 22:28 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=366498 I repackaged same files with lates Inno Setup Compiler. Please try ftp://ftp.altlinux.ru/pub/people/vvz/Maxima/maxima-5.9.1.9rc2ic5.exe ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: van_Nek (van_nek) Date: 2005-09-26 21:05 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1269745 Hello Vadim, I have just downloaded Maxima 5.9.1 and had a look at gnuplot.hlp. I can reproduce the described failure on my Windows 2000 computers. There are the described differences in the first seven lines compared to gp400win32. I cannot open gnuplot.hlp from the Maxima package. I dont know what the different characters in the first lines mean. But it seems to be only a problem with Windows 2000. I just tried it then with Windows XP on my sons computer and there gnuplot.hlp is OK. Volker ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Vadim V. Zhytnikov (vvzhy) Date: 2005-09-26 19:01 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=366498 I've checked original file, installed file on Windows Me, installed file on Windows Xp - all files are OK, all works and have md5sum b096e896abc55528e8035b12247a7d5d I'm really puzzled. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Robert Dodier (robert_dodier) Date: 2005-09-26 18:06 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=501686 Vadim -- did you see this? I don't know if this is still a problem, maybe you can tell.
