Initial Comment:
limit(sin(x),x,0) returns 0 in Maxima, where it should
return 1.

limit (sin(x),x,0) = limit ((sin(x)-sin(0))/(x-0),x,0)
= sin'(0) = cos(0)  = 1

just had to say it...

I think you are mistaken.  The limit is 0.
