Currently, devices are handled vial HAl in xorg 7.5, with entries in xorg.conf deprecated. > xorg.conf is deprecated because of dinamic configuration Yes, but in parts, the deprecation itself is (IMHO) somewhat flawed because there is no standard configuration in HAL concerning the default keyboard layout and options for mouse/touchpad etc other than distribution-specific HAL and PolicyKit settings. I personally find it most efficient to partly configure via xorg.conf and partly rely on the autodetection (for xorg 7.5). Otherwise, you have not much chance to influence things like AIGLX, RandR and (wrongly) detected chipsets.
