* Josh <jke...@gm...> [2009-01-29 14:26]: > How's it going with makig LXDE accessible with a > screen reader like Orca so blind people can use it? yes.. feedback from blind users would be very helpful. here in germany we have an NGO, linaccess.org, which deals with accessibility to computers in various forms for disabled people - one of these is for visually impaired people. they have tested Orca a few times, accompanied by accessibility people. one of the founders of this NGO is Klaus Knopper, the creator of the Knoppix Live CD. his wife is blind and is using Knoppix. and Klaus has a special project for giving access to blind people - ADRIANE: "Audio Desktop Reference Implementation and Networking Environment" http://www.knopper.net/knoppix-adriane/index-en.html Klaus just released version 6 which now uses LXDE instead of KDE: http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/knoppix60-en.html LXDE is used as graphical environment, which is a very slim and fast desktop with extremely short starttime and low resource requirements. Because of its GTK2 base, LXDE works together nicely with screenreader Orca. so i hope that further testing will take place now with the new version of Knoppix+LXDE and ADRIANE.
