Possibly this has been discussed before but I didn't see it in the = mailing list... How does one construct a valid LSID given an repository entry where no = lsid is actually identified in the file (almost always the case). That = is, say I download a copy of a genbank file and I want to construct an = lsid for an entry in the file. Since portions of the LSID are opaque = how can I actually construct a valid lsid and know it will resolve since = the my original genbank record doesn't contain and LSID in the record = itself. =20 I suppose the answer is probably to ask the web service which is the = authority for the file I got but this could often be prohibitively = expensive. Most of the examples in the document assume I already have = an LSID. Is there an example somewhere that shows how to get one given = a common resource (like GenBank or SwissProt for instance)?
