Using gnome 3.16 or 3.18 the tray icon shows as a black square.
The icon is functional but not displaying the picture.

This is a mono / Linux issue. There are plug-ins for Ubuntu which may help.

Not using Ubuntu unfourtunately. Found a corrosponding mono bug, which is awaiting a response since 2012 :/
