Until version 4257 (2015_01_07) - loading images via RasterImageLayer.class - the alpha channel (transparent pixels) of PNG or TIF images was set to transparent and not displayed on the workbench. After this version the transparent pixels are displayed in black.
I attached a test image file to this mail.
