Currently, the editing box for the title is enough for
a large paragraph, while the box for comments is only
enough for a few lines. It would be nice to be able to
set the relative size of each field in the "customize
entry types" dialogue. For instance, instead of:
"pdf;abstract;comment;crossref;keywords;url",
you could give
"pdf(10%);abstract(30%);comment(30%);crossref(10%);
keywords(10%);url(10%)".

I would like to second this request.
My 'abstract' field tends to get rather longish, but I prefer to have
everything at a glance on the tab 'required fields'. This setup leaves
only 1,5-2 lines for the abstract.
Another idea could be to put short fields like year, volume, number,
pages side by side instead of on top of each other.

I agree that the size of the fields should be configurable. But I think not all fields (URL) need to be scalable. Instead of scaling those fields too, more space could be used for larger text fields like "comment" etc. Therefore I would suggest to allow the specification of 2 values in the brackets:
- minimal height of the text field in pixels (if left, we assume a value of 50 (seems to be the current default value))
- scaling factor as floating point number (if left, we assume a value of 1)
Example:
"pdf(20,0);abstract(60,1);comment(60,1);crossref(20,0);
keywords(20,0.5);url(20,0)".
Or do you think it's it better to give the parameters names? E.g.
keywords(size=20,scale=0.5)
