Jabref is great! One suggestion:

For the external program (PDF/PS) regular expression search, to have the same range of fields available as for the bibtexkey generation.

For example, I have been labelling my PDFs with filenames like
Kivshar, PRL, 2001.pdf
but using, for example, the [author] field will search for the full author field (multiple authors, first and last names).
