The "required fields" edit window takes up a lot of
space on my screen, and there are a couple of ways it
could be made smaller; I'm not sure everyone would
prefer these, but maybe there could be an option for
"Compact window" in the Preferences.

1. Put the Journal buttons "Manage" and "Toggle
abbreviation" side-by-side; abbreviate the latter to
"Toggle" or "Abbreviate" or something. Or even better,
label both buttons with an icon and a tooltip and put
them next to the selection menu, so that the Journal
entry can be a single line. (A similar thing could be
done with the Manage button of the Author entry.)

2. Put the Year, Volume, and Pages entries all on one
line (or maybe two); they could be done with the
headers above instead of with the headers to the left.
For example (I'll label the new lines with
in
case the formatting gets messed up):

Year Volume Pages

1987 35 36-79

Most of the buttons will be icons in 4.0.
