Wow, this is a great tool! I use it for all my
publications now.
Now all I need is a method to store and retrieve
printed papers, so I do not have to print them again. I
think JabRef could help me if it is possible to assign
a unique number to each new entry. This number should
always be increasing, so I can just store them
sequentially in maps (inserting (and keeping sorted)
costs to much time). (The bibtexkey could be used for
this.)
The timestamp could, in principle, be used for this,
but it is more cumbersome to write this on the paper,
and it is difficult to assign a timestamp for papers I
added/printed years ago.
Would it be useful for you/others to be able to specify
a field that contains just a unique number, that can be
automatically filled in for new entries (also ones that
are copied/imported from other sources), and that can
also be automatically filled in for existing entries?
Thanks!

I used ref manager to do this in a lab during my undergrad,
and now both I and my advisor want to organize our printed
articles in the same way. I think this would be a useful
feature, and was suprised that the # column didn't serve
this function (not really sure what it does).

Yes, I know about 6 people who would use jabref over
refmanager/endnote if they could use it to organize their
printed papers. Great program though, this feature would
make it even better. Thanks.
