On Mac OS X gnuserver don't work (see http://thread.gmane.org/
gmane.emacs.macintosh.osx/1901). So can you offer an alternative
option to push to Emacs using (server-start)? This will ease a lot work for
Mac users.
The reason gnuserv is used by JabRef instead of emacsserver
is that the stable version of emacsserver/client doesn't
support executing arbitrary (lisp) commands like gnuserv/
client does. In short, I couldn't find a way to accomplish
this with emacsserver.
I can't find the reference at the moment, but I read
somewhere that comparable functionality was available in the
CVS version of emacsserver. If this becomes the case in the
stable version (or if I'm wrong about what's possible now),
I'll be delighted to add support for it to JabRef.
