After a few days away I at last have some time to get back to this=20 lovable laptop, and to its irda problems :-) >Since irdadump doesn't show your cellphone yet, this is not the >problem yet. Also there is a part about device numbers in the >Infrared-HOWTO, just choose the first one which matches the >major and minor device numbers mentioned there. But again >the phone has to show up in irdadump first! > I'll keep in mind... later About BIOS settings, you suggested: >why don't you just give it a try? did you ever look into the BIOS for >IrDA options? > =20 > The poin is, I cannot set anything about the serial ports in BIOS,=20 neither if they are on or off, nor irq, addresses, sir/fir... nothing.=20 Quite an unpleasant BIOS, indeed :-) Anyway, at least this let me say=20 the ir port is for sure a simple sir, at a certain address and irq (I=20 cannot set them, but settings are shown) >>Whenever I'll have a chance to check the irda port with another laptop,= =20 >>I'll try, but I'd like to understand what's wrong with the cell phone..= =2E >> =20 >> >good idea > =20 > I did it yesterday. No way, on the other side I had a Win98 lap with ir=20 surely working (I tested it with my cell phone). Neither it could detect=20 my laptop, nor I saw anything different the irdadump I already posted=20 (exactly the same I can have with the cell phone). I suppose this is not=20 good... :-/ >in general it shows what IrDA packages are send and received, your >output shows that only the laptop is discovered but not the >phone.=20 > >You might also try to change IrDA settings on the phone side >or speed changes (e.g. 9600bps) at the laptop side. > I don't think I could change anything on the phone side, and anyway I'm=20 pretty sure the probem is on the laptop side. The main issue now is,=20 what the problem is? I can't even figure out at which point of the=20 installation and configuration process things start to go wrong... May=20 it be irattach don't attach really? The only thing I'm pretty sure is=20 that the serial port corresponding to /dev/ttyS1 is the ir port, and=20 suold be correctly "seen" by the kernel... Any more idea? Could I do something to understand where the problem is? Thank you again for the help =B0=B0=B0 Wise O LYNX |
