Good, that means that it's just a local problem for us (unmetered ISDN 
dialup to Demon Internet in the UK).

The first channel is dialing up and getting an IP address in about 
3 seconds (see syslog excerpt below). The second channel does not 
even try to startup, it's as if the "isdnctrl addlink" command is 
not bonding them together.

One question that I not sure on - when we run "isdnctrl addlink ippp0", 
how does it know that the channel we want to add is ippp1 ?

It's now a live system that works well with the extra dial commands, so 
I'm a bit relectant to change it too much (at least inside office hours). 
I'll let you know if I get more information.
