G'day all, As of now the IPcop email lists 'ipcop-user' and 'ipcop-devel' have been closed to new posts. The archives will stay around until sourceforge decide to delete the complete project. On behalf of the IPCop team I would like to thank all that have been involved over the years, it has been a good run. PS: With the advent of GDPR the list admins can no longer unsubscribe members, there should be no further posts from the lists but if you want to be sure you may wish unsubscribe your selves. -- 'ooroo Mike...(:)-) --------------------------------------------------- o You need only two tools. o ///// A hammer and duct tape. Jack and all the "crew", Thank you for THE best firewall I've ever used. Hated the announcement that this all was going to end. First started using IPCop around 2003 after running Windows 2000 Server. Meanwhile tried PfSense, Smoothwall, m0n0wall, and some others. But always came back to IPCop. None of them were as good and/or light enough to run on older or "limited" hardware. It has been running on all sorts of hardware: Pentium 133, Pentium 2 233, VIA C3 800 , VIA C7 1000, ALIX & APU Take care and yet again THANK YOU to all of you. Thanks Jack, for many years of support for the group of us. I've been using IPCop for at least 10 years. The earliest dated file I have is from 2006, and the earliest ZERINA is 2007. :-) Switched to IPFire as IPCop has been simple enough for my understanding (and the hardware I run it on), but good enough to provide both the security and remote access I've needed. I hope IPFire will continue the good work. So long, and thanks for all the fish. David p.s. I still have (in a cardboard box in the loft) the first IPCop I installed on a Compaq 2 CPU workstation (before the time of dual core processors). Old, but robust hardware. Hi, I have a running IPCOP 2.1.9 system and am attempting to move to another PC. On the working 2.1.9 system I have the following issues: - the backup page won't let me create a backup password. No matter what I type for a password (admin, root, etc) when I click "export backup key" it says "incorrect password" - I can't get it to recognize a usb device for the backup media. - I created a backup set. It ended up in: /home/httpd/html there is a .dat and a .dat.time file. - I mounted the usb stick by hand and copied those files to the usb stick. But, the new install on the new system (which is 2.1.8 on a CD, because the web site says 2.1.9 can't be installed directly) doesn't see any backup files. Mot sure if that is because I don't have a key or something else... I would appreciate any help, thanks. Mac |

You can also place the new file any where you like. I like them together. easier to see the intention. But it is the concept, that is important. |

I want/need to do some web filtering on the library self-service computers of an educational institution, simply blocking access to a list of URLs like sex.com www.sex.com Is it better to put my list of banned URL in the URL Filtering custom blacklist ? Or just plonk them in /etc/hosts as 127.0.0.1 sex.com 127.0.0.1 www.sex.com I am not interested in logging any user loggin-in attempts, or for now in blocking by IP address or user. Hi I am still using IPCop. Unsupported is not the same as unserviceable. When there is a need to change, I will change. Thank you all for showing a future... For me I am old fart and still an IPCop user :) I use older hardware. Mine is running with an IDE drive and Pentium3 processor. The drive, I been using for one thing or another for 25yrs. I broke my ankle recently was forced to clean out my work space, so the wheelchair could fit. I had just gotten a few new servers to play (XEON dual core). Gave away those and all my old equipment (>15yrs) to tech student who wanted to learn from pre-linux days. My 486sx25, 12M w/ 272MB (my first IPCop machine) went out the door, with v1.5 still on it and working, use 2x Intel 10base-T ISA cards!! Another person who was building a tech BUS, took my meshed net pair of Linksys 54G routers to took between BUS and class room demos. I been into Raspberry PI lately. On reason I liked IPFire, they had ported to RPi1. I still have one of those sitting next to me a my standby network. USB to my iPhone and 1 cable move from CAble modem to RPi... I am back. currently trying tpo 3D print, Plex and NAS boxes for my family.. RPi3b+ w/ 1x 120GB SSD and 1x 5TB for storage. Oh I degress. Give me an open mic. I really want to give a full try at OPNsense, but just not wanting the learning curve. I am also needing to finally move to IPv6, but just do not want to change. I got my network just where I want it. OFF MY LAWN... |

I've just made a recent switch to IPFire using Red,Green,Blue and Orange interfaces and OpenVPN and have found the learning curve quite minimal, having come from IPCop. The current stable version is using quite an old (albeit patched), kernel, but they have recently released a development version for testing, (which I'm using), that uses kernel 4.14. The purpose was to give people a soft landing and a chance to move on and make suggestions of where to move to, compare notes etc. I have moved to OPNSense but evaluated several including PFsense. Others I have tried, one of which forked from IPCop itself from the olden 1.4 days and now requires money to get the full feature version stable version versus the free community bleeding edge testbed version as well as Untangle, also crippled without paying them, then there are others which in the age of GPT partitions and EFI are outmoded and unusable on some modern hardware as well as clunky in comparison. I am now in the world of multi-wan, dynamic graphs (not statically updating every ten minutes) and running a six disk ZFS install(overkill but I had six four extra Sata ports doing nothing while mirrored) and taking advantage of CoDel queing for traffic shaping. Both wans are dsl but one is directly from the incumbent who owns the local infrastructure and the other, a reseller who uses their lines but both have different gateway addresses yet for some services like Netflix and most others, both will aggregate and allow me to watch UHD with two 7mbs adsl lines yet giving 14mbs throughput to my Roku definitely not bonded. Huge learning curve but powerful in ways I never thought I needed before. Dave Studeman |

Ron - Each browser hatest us differently... Most do not self sign certifacats. Others the older SSL. Generally, on the left side just below that message, is an advance link, maybe a buttom, normal a light blue on white background so you do not see it. Slick that. You should get a pop window, that will allow you to place an exception. That should be it. jackb |

But IPCop seems to have run it course. No new development for over a year. So, I will renewing the IPCOP.ORG one more time, so we close down project and help people to migrate to the next great thing. Please post your ideas, so others can leveage the knowledge you have, to indentify were we should migrate to next. I been looking at IPFire personally, but do not like the DNS service, since I block 17,000 websites and do not want that list to show up in my host panel. IPCop DNS function supports multiple HOST files, so the blocked ones does not interfere with standard host needs. To be clear Nov 2018 the IPCop.org domain will close for good. If we find a new development going again, we will remain open. But at this point I believe we are done. Thank you all for the long run. That especailly include Olof, Eric, Achim for the hard work under the covers. Jack Beglinger |

On trying to access my IPCop box through Firefox, I get: Secure Connection Failed The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem. Any suggestions? So looking at me rules under 'Internal Traffic' I have GREEN Green Network => BLUE Any So anything in green can contact anything in blue, try that and see if you get anywhere, then you can tie it down, or it might give you a hint as to why it is not working. -- 'ooroo Stinga...(:)-) --------------------------------------------------- Email: sti...@wo... o You need only two tools. o ///// A hammer and duct tape. Back out the SSH changes. You should not have open any ports -- green to orange is open by design. Green --> Blue, Orange, Red Blue --> Orange, Red Green blocked by default. Orange --> Red Blue, Green blocked by default. Red --> Orange, Blue, Green blocked by default. It is why a stateful firewall is important. It "knows" the request came from Green so the return path is clear. Else you will having to opens ports just to use the internet. If after to clean SSH out... look into the logs and find your request and its response, if there is an error. Do not get mixed up between, IPCop's SSH requirements and other SSH. Those settings in FIREWALL -> SETTINGS are only for IPCop's SSH which is on 8022. Also option over under SYSTEM --> SSH, to even have SSH start on IPCop. Hi I now have red to orange port forwarding working. I now want to setup a green to orange ssh connection to administer the server. This will only be enabled while I am logged on to prevent a leak between orange and green. I have setup a rule that opens a pin hole from Green to Orange. It uses the ssh (port 22) service at the destination. I have not specified a source port. The green network (IP 168.30.21.xxx) is on a different subnet to orange (IP 168.30.23.xxx). I can't connect with ssh and I can't ping the server on the Orange network. Any suggestions? -- Regards Darren Conway 36 Orr Crescent Lower Hutt New Zealand ph +64 (0)4 569 1963 --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus |
