Laziness has always been a strong force in my life. It's easier to press a single button once than entering a username and password. ;-) My wife and I found it easier using ctrl-alt-delete previously (no monitor required but we kept the keyboard for that purpose). It's not that we necessarily needed to do it that way but we find it easier than logging in to the web interface or, as you say, over ssh. Sometimes I'll shut my machine down not knowing whether she's left her's on in another room and vice-versa. If there's no machine on in the house we'd have to boot one up just to shutdown ipcop. Even if a machine is on we won't necessarily have a browser open. Now, all we need to do is press a single button rather than enter usernames/passwords. It's much more like a regular appliance now with a single on/off button.
