Hello I have a problem with dialup timeouts. Although I've set it to 2 minutes it can go on indefinitely. Originally I had thought that that this was due to netbios calls to the network so I added: ipchains -A input -p udp -s 192.168.0.2 137:139 -j REJECT ipchains -A input -p udp -d 0.0.0.0 137:139 -j REJECT to /etc/rc.d/rc.firewall.up which stopped my windows box from starting and keeping up connections but once the connection is up it still stays up much longer than it should following any activity from my side. Using tcpdump on my ppp0 interface (red - where my adsl modem is found) is see this randomly: 8:12:17.702473 81.65.28.13.3639 > my.local.ip.address.2178: S 29615547:29615547(0) win 8192 <mss 1412,nop,nop,sackOK> (DF) 18:12:17.702687 my.local.ip.address.2178 > 81.65.28.13.3639: R 0:0(0) ack 29615548 win 0 (local ip address has be changed to protect the innocent ...) I'm sorry that my tcp/ip culture is a bit lacking but it seems that these syns from outer space are the culprit. They are regularly sent to me on ports 4166, 4662 etc. Is there anything I can do to counter them? Can anyone tell me what they are? While I'm at it I also see (on the green interface) a lot of activity concerning mdbs_daemon (port 800). Using "netstat --inet -ap" I see them attributed to my Opera browser. I've looked high and low but can't find any info on the mdbs_daemon. What is it? Any help on these matters would be greatly appreciated. |
