Category: other Group: None Status: Closed Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Install omission Initial Comment: Privoxy version 3.0.3, Slackware 11.0 1- make install ends with: WARNING! WARNING! installing config files as root! It is strongly recommended to run privoxy as a non-root user, and to install the config files as that user and/or group! Please read INSTALL, and create a privoxy user and group! ******************************************************************* make: *** [install] Error 1 root@host:/home/william/downloads/privoxy-3.0.3-stable# I have no idea as to what to do about this. Help? 2- I had privoxy successfully installed on Slackware 10.2, with advice from a webpage (url now lost), on how to create the user and group the right way. IIRC it involved the words "no home" and "no shell". Advice on the right commands to create user and group would be much appreciated. I wouldn't mind advice on the how to remove user and group that I created and aren't working. Yes, but the syntax varies. On Red Hat its 'useradd'. USERADD(8) USERADD(8) NAME useradd - Create a new user or update default new user information SYNOPSIS useradd [-c comment] [-d home_dir] [-e expire_date] [-f inactive_time] [-g initial_group] [-G group[,...]] [-m [-k skeleton_dir] | -M] [-p passwd] [-s shell] [-u uid [ -o]] [-n] [-r] login useradd -D [-g default_group] [-b default_home] [-f default_inactive] [-e default_expire_date] [-s default_shell] The reason this is not done by 'make install', is the variability of the syntax and the difficulty of getting it right for _everybody_. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2006-10-28 16:09 Message: Logged In: NO Thanks. It's installed, and appears to be working. I pasted the lines from http://www.privoxy.org/user-manual/installation.html into /etc/passwd and /etc/group Thought there was a way of doing this from command line? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Hal Burgiss (hal9) Date: 2006-10-28 13:16 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=322640 It's here .... http://www.privoxy.org/user-manual/installation.html#INSTALLATION-SOURCE ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=211118&aid=1586264&group_id=11118 |
