Initial Comment: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/? group_id=11118&atid=211118 Privoxy stumbles over too-fast connections? Hi all Well, that sounds already like a diagnosis, is just a pure guess for now. I surf in two envoronments with my laptop. > at work: fast connection > at my hotel: very fast connection (can be over 500 KByte/sek). At work: performance is pretty fine most of the times. But then, at the hotel, paradoxically, the connection pauses, or even times out often (privoxy sais "Connect failed [...] because the connection [...] could not be established". Or, on pages with pictures, it often seems to get stuck between loading those. If and where pages get stuck (i.e. requests time out) is pretty random, but the majority get stuck, even already on the main HTML body (so the privoxy error page shows), or on one of its contained images (so they and any subsequent pages don't show up). Apparently not specific to certain sites. Re-using stock config files, or disabling Privoxy, doesn't help. The only remedy is just to bypass privoxy in the browser settings - then the browser flies again at expected & deserved hyper speed. When comparing speed with/without privoxy, of course I repeatedly reloaded the same page with <Ctrl>-<F5> to disregard the browser cache each time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ...the small-print: > privoxy version: 3.0.3 for Windows > OS: XP SP2, all patches > Firewalls: XP Firewall + ZoneAlarm 5.5.094.000 I surf under a non-admin account, so the chances that some malware screwed up the guts of my PC config is pretty remote > Browser: MSIE 6 SP2, all patches (6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.040301-1519) Many Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: SourceForge Robot (sf-robot) Date: 2006-10-26 19:20 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1312539 This Tracker item was closed automatically by the system. I'm serving the content from an encrypted laptop partition and Privoxy isn't even the limiting factor here. If your problem was speed related, I'm pretty sure it wasn't a Privoxy problem. I also wouldn't call 500 KByte/s fast anyway and assume the speed difference was just a coincidence. I assume the problem was caused by the hotel's infrastructure or by ZoneAlarm, but of course we'll never know for sure if you can no longer reproduce it. I can't reproduce any hangs with: http://www.tecchannel.de/index.cfm?pid=401&pk=449336 either, but I assume you are just using some filters that can take a while, and eventually Privoxy would finish. You could enable filter debugging to see what's going on. The problem isn't really solved in Privoxy 3.0.5 beta, but some of the cpu hungry filters are disabled by default. http://www.lufthansa.com/ redirects to a HTTPS address and probably the images are fetched encrypted as well. Can you provide the exact HTTP URL of an image that doesn't get blocked but should? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: sf-user (sf-user) Date: 2006-10-11 16:57 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1341934 Fabian, I couldn't reproduce the speeding problem even with 3.0.3, because I never had such fast internet access again since then. Currently I'm "only" on 2MBit or slower environments. If you are very keen to trace this, you may consider setting up a tiny webserver on your local machine as a super-fast testing scenario? //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// I have another easily reproducable hanging issue in 3.0.3 though. Whenever I try to access: http://www.tecchannel.de/index.cfm?pid=401&pk=449336 privoxy hangs with 100% CPU utilisation, and needs to be killed. Please try to reproduce in your latest build? //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Another, but low-prio: Sometimes I experience that images are not filtered. create a user filter in { +block }: www.lufthansa.com/cdautils/mediapool/media_[0-9]+\. (jpg|gif) or simpler www.lufthansa.com/cdautils/mediapool/media_......\.jpg Then surf to www.lufthansa.com, and you see the above .jpg are never crunched. Best of luck! Btw, I thank you guys who take Privoxy further. It was a pity that the project was dead for a long time, as Privoxy is very useful powerful due to its generic and open design. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Fabian Keil (fabiankeil) Date: 2006-09-30 07:49 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=875547 Can you reproduce the problem with Privoxy 3.0.5 beta? Does it work if you disable ZoneAlarm? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: sf-user (sf-user) Date: 2005-09-09 00:15 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1341934 errata: replace > "or on one of its contained images (so they and any subsequent pages don't show up" with > "or on one of its contained images (so they and any subsequent images don't show up ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: sf-user (sf-user) Date: 2005-09-09 00:15 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1341934 errata: replace > "or on one of its contained images (so they and any subsequent pages don't show up" with > "or on one of its contained images (so they and any subsequent images don't show up ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: sf-user (sf-user) Date: 2005-09-08 23:47 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1341934 errata: replace > "or on one of its contained images (so they and any subsequent pages don't show up" with > "or on one of its contained images (so they and any subsequent images don't show up ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: sf-user (sf-user) Date: 2005-09-08 23:46 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1341934 errata: replace > "or on one of its contained images (so they and any subsequent pages don't show up" with > "or on one of its contained images (so they and any subsequent images don't show up ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=211118&aid=1285646&group_id=11118 |
