Category: None Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Submitted By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: How to configure Privoxy for Windows XP with dialup AOL Initial Comment: I downloaded Privoxy 3.0.3 as part of a package for Windows from the Tor website (also includes Tor 0.1.0.15 and TorCP 0.0.4) I am using Windows XP Version 2002 with Service Pack 2 My browser is AOL 9.0 with a dialup connection. Privoxy is not working on the internet. I set the proxy to localhost:8118 at Settings/Internet Properties/Internet Explorer Settings/Connections/Settings/Advanced. When I launch Privoxy while offline the log screen comes up and there are numerous error messages: "Unable to get my own hostname" When I select Help/Privoxy Status Internet Explorer launches and displays pages with the header "This is Privoxy 3.0.3 on unknown (127.0.0.1),port 8118, enabled" But when I go to your website using AOL I get the message "Privoxy is not working" I have tried the remedies you suggest but it still doesn't work. Could be a forwarding problem but I'm not sure what to do. My main configuration file came with the line: forward-socks4a/local host:9050 And I did change: #forward/caching-proxy.example-isp.net:8000 #forward.example-isp.net. to: forward/caching-proxy.aol.com:8000 forward.aol.com. So what am I missing here? I am not a computer programmer so I could use some help to get this to work. I suspect my setup is not uncommon. I spent quite a while trying to get it working but gave up in the end. Thankfully my end user is switching to a proper ISP, so I'd advise you the same otherwise you may be banging your head on a wall for a long time! For Tor you can use: forward-socks4 / 127.0.0.1:9050 . #local DNS resolution or forward-socks4 / 127.0.0.1:9050 . #DNS resolution through Tor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=211118&aid=1456398&group_id=11118 |
