Category: startup Group: None >Status: Open Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Gliberific (gooberific) Assigned to: Fabian Keil (fabiankeil) Summary: Starting Privoxy as a Service WITH Tray Icon Initial Comment: I can't get Privoxy to start with Windows 8.1 . I have to start it as a service in order to have it run at log on . However , if I run it as a service , I lose the tray Icon , which I use to sometimes disable Privoxy with a troubling site. I also use it to quickly get to the configuration and user files to edit them . Is there any way to start Privoxy as a service AND have the tray Icon available as well under Windows 8.1 ? Have I missed something ? Privoxy 3.0.21 Windows 8.1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Gliberific (gooberific) Date: 2013-11-15 19:54 Message: I run it as a service and set it to interact with desktop , but the tray icon still doesn't show up . I have also tried starting it using the task scheduler , but it doesn't seem to want to start at all that way . I set it to use my credentials to log in at log on , but nothing happens , program never starts . I have even tried launching it using a batch file that I can run at startup , but when run from the batch file it errors out ( I forget the error , something about a file not being found). I'm truly stuck and confused . All of these solutions SHOULD have worked , , I must have missed something or made a typo somewhere . Oh well , i'll just have to manually start it each time I log in I guess . No biggie. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Fabian Keil (fabiankeil) Date: 2013-11-13 09:39 Message: Check the service properties to see if the Privoxy service has something like "desktop permissions" (or if you can grant them). As I don't have access to Windows 8.1, I unfortunately can't tell you where the service properties are exactly. I believe on Windows XP they could be checked with services.msc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=211118&aid=3615198&group_id=11118 |
