Category: other Group: 3.0.11 >Status: Closed Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Serah (serah) Assigned to: Fabian Keil (fabiankeil) Summary: Uninstalled Privoxy, proxy settings off, nothing connects Initial Comment: Hi guys, I'm having quite an issue with Privoxy 3.0.11. I'm running it on WinXP SP3, using IE7, FireFox 3.0.11, Chrome 3.0.195.38. Privoxy is running solo, there is no home firewall product. Ok-- So what's happening is when I try to upgrade Privoxy to any newer version, IE, Chrome, MSN and anything else retrieving network connection settings from Internet Options can no longer connect. FireFox is able to connect just fine though (it's set to 'No proxy'). I tried uninstalling Privoxy 3.0.11 and deleted and turned off proxy settings in 'LAN Settings' of Internet Options and now IE, Chrome, MSN, Skype, etc, can no longer connect. We have 3 computers running Privoxy here on my home network and neither of the other two had any issue when I uninstalled Privoxy and set the proxy settings back to default (off). It seems to be something particular to this install. This is causing me some serious problems because I need this laptop to connect to my university's servers. Since I can't upgrade or uninstall Privoxy without disabling the connection to almost everything on here except Firefox, I have no idea what to do. I've tried uninstalling, clearing proxy settings, clearing the browser caches, restarting, reinstalling Privoxy (oh yes, everything connects again once it's reinstalled and proxy settings are restored), but now my computer is basically trapped within this version and I can't seem to do a damn thing. My guess is that Internet Options/IE is somehow retaining the proxy settings even though I've deleted and clicked proxy settings off. Any help with this would be seriously appreciated... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Fabian Keil (fabiankeil) Date: 2010-01-29 14:07 Message: You're welcome. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Serah (serah) Date: 2010-01-29 00:17 Message: Yeah, it appears there's something more serious going on with this system... I actually think Privoxy was helping the situation because it allowed me to connect to the Internet (for some reason), so I've reinstalled it for the time being so I can eventually fix this thing. Yes as well, I have always been getting Privoxy from privoxy.org, so I'm sure you're right that it's a problem with this system. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Hopefully I'll get this resolved soon. :) Take care. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Fabian Keil (fabiankeil) Date: 2010-01-16 17:03 Message: I'm aware that this won't help you, but Privoxy doesn't touch your proxy settings, so I think the issue isn't with Privoxy, but with your system. It sounds especially strange to me that using a more recent Privoxy version doesn't work either. Did you make sure that both versions use the same listening address? Did you get your Privoxy version from a trusted site? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=211118&aid=2932588&group_id=11118 |
