Category: None Group: None >Status: Closed Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Didn't want it, now can't get online without it. Initial Comment: Hello, I recently "got" privoxy on my netbook somehow, definitely not on purpose. I started getting privoxy error messages saying that connections to web sites were being lost. I didn't have problems before privoxy showed up. I uninstalled privoxy and now I can't get on internet at all! It says: "Problem loading page. Unable to connect. Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at...." I get this for any URL I try to get to. This never happened before Privoxy. My wireless network connection is fine (says: signal strength is excellent) and the other computers in the house aren't having trouble loading sites. What did Privoxy do to my computer?!?!? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: SourceForge Robot (sf-robot) Date: 2009-11-23 02:20 Message: This Tracker item was closed automatically by the system. Also note that Privoxy doesn't install itself, so you should make sure that what you had installed really was Privoxy and not something else that used the same name. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2009-11-08 11:41 Message: I also got Privoxy without requesting it - it was causing problems accessing the internet so I went trough the correct Windows procedure of uninstalling the program. Now I can't get onto the internet at all. This happened as soon as I uninstalled Privoxy, nothing else was done. Now I get a message after running diagnostics saying that there is an HTTP error. This program is worse than a virus! I have tried everything I can think of but no success. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Fabian Keil (fabiankeil) Date: 2009-11-02 17:26 Message: If your browser isn't using any proxy, what makes you think Privoxy is causing the problem? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2009-10-27 05:46 Message: Thanks for answering! The Connection settings box doesn't have an option for "direct connection". The top says "Configure proxies to access the internet" and has the following radio buttons: No Proxy (which is what it was set on). Auto-detect proxy. Manual proxy configuration. Automatic proxy configuration URL. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2009-10-27 04:54 Message: Maybe you installed a TOR package that included a version of Privoxy. FIrefox menu Tools, then Options. Click on the Network tab, then on Connection Settings button. Choose the option for "Direct connection to the internet" and OK. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=211118&aid=2886885&group_id=11118 |
