I just wanted to relate what I just encountered when trying to use my brand new IFP-190TC with IFP-line to prevent some people from investigating on a wrong way like I did ! As I was trying to use some commands (ifp-line last release 0.2.4.5 and libusb without patch), I had random self disconnection issues (player display leaving USB mode). The reading of several posts in this lists (particularly "disconnecting strait away" and some others) first made me think that my system (Mandrake Linux 9.2 with Kernel 2.4.22) was subjected (in kernel or libusb libraries ? I'm a Linux newbee as well as PC software newbee...) to an already noticed bug. I was first really thinking about software related problems because I had successfully tried to connect the player to a Windows 2000 installed PC. Furthermore, my problem did not appear to be a connector problem.... however it was one ! I began understanding the problem when even when using windows (xp this time but it does not matter) the device disconnected itself during the driver installation (with the happy things that it causes on windows) even when not moving it. Therefore that I just wanted to highlight is that even if I agree about the lot of advantages and features that the IFP100 series have, the tiny USB connector present on them has a very bad quality ! :-( I checked that it is correctly soldered inside and not dammaged. So I am pretty sure that a lot of peoeple have experienced the same problem as me because even with a brand new and not dammaged device I have now to hold the player and its plugged connector (applying a slight twisting constraint on it) to get a realiable connection. This could lead to a lot of misinterpretations ! That's why if anyone is subjected to self disconnection problems, I suggest him to start first by checking the easiest thing to check: the connector ;-) |
