In reality, I've been told by my management "this is the way it will be done". Isn't it great when non-technical people try to make technical decisions? The only choice I have in the matter is which software I use - and I'd prefer to use something open-source, rather than commercial. > FreePBX is not the way to go for a dedicated fax server as its > configuration is overly complicated for simple fax-in, fax-out > operations. I've tried that, but none of the configurations on any of the web sites I've been to, so far, have worked. That's the only reason I even tried FreePBX: I thought it would handle all the details that weren't obvious on the sites I was reading. > If you're going to run the fax channel over the LAN like that then you > really should do it with T.38 as your FreePBX is trying (but failing) to > do because T.38 makes some attempts at coping with UDP packet loss. (The first call to t38modem (after I start it) gets a fast busy signal. The second call gets either a fax tone, or silence. If it gets a fax tone, it will correctly receive a fax. All subsequent calls get a fast busy signal.) I would have mentioned it, earlier, but this is the IAXmodem forum. > but in those cases I generally advise users to > run a dedicated ad-hoc network (crossover cable) between dedicated > ethernet devices on the PBX and the fax server (making sure the fax > channel communication goes over that link). That's what I meant, when I said "dedicated 1GB Ethernet link". Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. Thanks again, Chris |
