[Geotools-devel] dbtype param

So I'm looking more at the new datasource code, and I'm wondering what the
thinking is behind the dbtype parameter for the postgis datasource, but
not having a dbtype for shapefiles or gmldatasource.  Is it just because
you can figure out what it is based on the suffix of the url?  Is it right
that some datasources don't specify a 'dbtype'?  Are there advantages to 
not checking the dbtype for datasources that are just made with a url?
