Ah yes, I forgot about those prompts (I wish the maven folk had just stuck with the old system - it was a lot simpler :) For the example it doesn't really matter what you choose for version. Make the package name org.geotools.demo.example to align with the Quickstart code. I'm afraid I've no idea what's causing the velocity templates error or even what that refers to. Sorry. Perhaps someone else here has seen this error ? If you can't get it to work you can create your project "by hand" by copying the pom.xml file from the Quickstart page and creating this directory structure... C:\somewhere\example C:\somewhere\example\src\main\java\org\geotools\demo\example C:\somewhere\example\src\test\java Put your pom.xml file in the first of those directories and create your application in the second.
