Those formats are used for many remote sensing data from Nasa and other organisation. HDF and NetCDF libraries exist and we will have to map them to Geotools. But the difficulty is not about using those libraries. The difficulty is that NetCDF and HDF are not image formats; they are data formats and are quite powerfull and generic. I have used a little bit HDF, but up to date I had to write many decoders specific to different kind of HDF data. For example I have a HDF decoder for Sea Surface Temperature, and other HDF decoder for Chlorophylle-a concentrations, an other HDF decoder for Sea Level Anomaly, etc. I would like something more generic, but I'm not yet sure how we could do that. I wonder if we are not stepping in the land of "semantic web"... Martin |
