[Geotools-devel] Creating new shapefile

I'm looking at creating a new shapefile and adding features to it but 
there isn't an obvious way to do it.  The method that envision is the 
following:

1. Create a ShapefileDataStore referencing a nonexisting file
2. Get a FeatureStore (or a writer)
3. Add features
4. Done.


Obviously this didn't work and I didn't really expect it to.  So the 
question is:  is there currently a way to do this?  If not is this a 
logical manner in which to do it?
