To the geotools PMC, As most of you know, I have been making small (hopefully positive) contributions to the coordinate transformation module. All of my work to date has been sent through Martin for checking and inclusion in geotools. I was planning to request SVN access latter this summer when I will (hopefully) be starting some new datum work, but I think Martin is getting tired of me bugging him so I will ask now ;) For those that do not know much about me, I am currently a Masters student studying biometrics (statistics and sampling) at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Faculty of Forestry in Vancouver. My other area of interest is GIS, which I studied at the BC institute of technology (BCIT) 2 years ago. It was at BCIT where I was first introduced to java, though I also took first year computer science courses when I was an undergraduate student. Being a graduate student means that I will likely not be making large contributions next fall and spring (I have a thesis to work on). If granted SVN access, I plan to still run large changes by Martin. My knowledge of larger scale program design still needs more work, but most of what I am doing is within the existing CTS framework (testing and adding new projections or transforms). Unfortunately, I have not used CVS or SVN before (except to check out code). However, the descriptions in the svn book look straight forward and I am working on some more testScripts right now that would be good to experiment with (they do not affect the build). I will also need to start learning how to use Jalopy and other tools. Like usual, I will not be at tomorrows IRC. I do not have access to an IRC client at school and should be prepairing for an upcomming committee meeting. Rueben Schulz |
