can you please show steps how to configure the world map?   I have a similar problem as you, but I even don't know how to create a world map layer, or where to start.

Thanks to ianwallen, the world maps and three coastlines are now 
appearing in remote computers.  We changed config-gui.xml to explicitly 
name the IP address of the server, replacing  the default <localhost> name.
