I'd say that at the moment, the G2 framework is ready for us to do localization testing. This means that we should be attempting to localize the existing content into any/all languages possible so that we discover any problems that exist in the framework and fix them ASAP. However, the application layer is not yet to the point where doing a final localization pass really makes sense. We're still going to be moving things around and rewording some of the content. If you do a localization pass now, you may have to do another complete pass at a later date. How do you guys feel about that? I think that for this to really be effective, we should have a page up on the website that shows each language, who owns the translation, when it was last updated and whether or not it requires further translation. This would give us an easy way to track the status for each localization. Anybody interested in working on that? I think that the lib/tools/po/update-all-translations.pl script is a good start, but we'll need to start tracking a lot more data. Possibly create a new data file in that directory where we can record localizations and owners, and then have the script update that file. This way, we could run the script on a regular basis and if it's changed, we check it in. The website can get the latest copy of the page and display it in a nice viewable format. -Bharat |
