Folks - I want to make an introduction and apology. First - my name is Jason Dufair. I'm a software developer with 13+ years of enterprise software development, including extensive OO work in Smalltalk and Java. I've also done a decent amount of PHP, mostly on consulting projects. I recently switched from the "album" Perl script by David Madison to Gallery and am really enjoying it. I noticed that RSS support was somewhat lacking in G2 and decided I'd like to try and help get G2 RSS support ready for prime time. I got on irc as jas1 (forgetting that I already had a nick reserved on freenode) and then later as jkdufair, offering help, introducing myself, etc. I then did a bit of analysis and design on improving the Summer of Code RSS module, did a bit of hacking, and then went AWOL for a week (on vacation with my family). I had mentioned briefly that I was going to be gone for a week on irc, but really should have done a much better job. So please accept my apology for my clumsy entry into your community. I posted my notes on my (pitifully skeletal) website at http://www.dufair.org/wiki/index.php?title=Analysis/Design_notes_for_the_RSS_module and would be glad to get any feedback from anyone with an interest in a Gallery RSS feed module. It was suggested that I add these notes to the Gallery codex - if folks think this is valuable or want to be able to add/edit, I'd be glad to do this. I'm planning on spending 2 hours/day implementing the design I have and will keep you all posted on my progress. I'm expecting it will take perhaps 2 weeks to code and maybe another week or so to update tests and to actually test. This appears to be the most well organized OSS project I've contributed to and it makes it a real pleasure to read the code and docs. Thanks to all the developers who have worked hard on this thus far. -- Jason Dufair - ja...@du... http://www.dufair.org/ "I believe it's a sin to try and make things last forever Everything that exists in time runs out of time someday Got to let go of the things that keep you tethered Take your place with grace and then be on your way" -- Bruce Cockburn |
