I've been using the tool for over 6 months now having switched from a commercial product and I can't recommend Freemind enough to friends and colleagues. Thanks to all of you who have contributed to building this

I mainly use the software to collect my thoughts for essays, but also to summarise a vast volume of information from various lessons and articles from an MBA programme.  Building up the map really helps me with the learning process and provides a great simple reference tool.

To support a reasearch project, I've been looking for something that can index and tag large numbers of documents (pdf research papers), using tag and tag hierarchies to create common themes.  This kind of fits with the Qualitative Research field (http://www.lboro.ac.uk/research/mmethods/research/software/caqdas.html#answr).

Commercial products such as NVIVO (http://www.qsrinternational.com/) are darn expensive!  There seems to be a gap in good quality freeware it would seem. Makes wonder whether there's an opportunity for Freemind feature expansion, perhaps along the lines of InfoRapid (http://www.inforapid.de/html/knowledgemapeng.htm)

Many thanks again
