Ok, As far as I know: First would be code some patchs to let fgfs use photos or terrain mesh data. Next would be patch fgfs to not load on startup all textures. The program should load it on demand just before using it and release when not in use (tricky?). Next we need to get good resolution maps from worldwind or something similar, for free (as in freedom + gratis). What's next? I don't know much about terrain generation algorithm used in fgfs, but should it be modified? Best regards. > Something could be written in official flightgear to accept any photos=20 > or terrain mesh data in a certain directory with lat and long to replac= e=20 > the stock terrain there. >=20 > This would have many legitimate uses such as flying over public domain=20 > nasa downloaded mars or titan terrain for example. >=20 > Then as a separate and non official flight gear project others could=20 > write a keystroke script to get google earth or probably easier google=20 > maps to display tiles around the area you want to fly and screen captur= e=20 > them and save them to a directory in flightgear along with an=20 > appropriate latitude and longitude. >=20 >=20 > On Fri, 26 May 2006 8:11 pm, Pigeon wrote: > >> I'm figuring out how to extract google earth imagery to map the=20 > >> current > >> scenery in FGFS. > >> > >> Would it be posible? > >> > >> What about license issues?
