Jonathan, Thank you for your suggestion. I did as you advised, downloading the Sapi5 version of Espeak and tried it with NVDA. As you predicted, the sapi5 version did not produce the harshness that I am hearing with the latest master builds. Btw, it sounds fine with 2013.3. I am assuming it may be an NVDA issue. I'm willing to file this as a ticket in their Trac system. -----Original Message----- From: Jonathan Duddington [mailto:jo...@ta...] Sent: Thursday, February 06, 2014 4:11 PM To: esp...@li... I don't think I've made any change to the sound of the 'v' consonant which is used by the "en" and "en-us" voices. Please check whether this effect if you install the SAPI5 version of eSpeak (from http://espeak.sourceforge.net/download.html) and choose the ESPEAK-EN voice from the SAPI5 synthesizer in NVDA. eSpeak produces sound at 22050 Hz. One reason why the eSpeak voice can sound "rough" is if some other software is re-sampling the speech into a different sampling rate. But this should not be a problem with NVDA, unless NVDA has changed something. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Managing the Performance of Cloud-Based Applications Take advantage of what the Cloud has to offer - Avoid Common Pitfalls.
