If dvdstyler does not for some reason recognize subtitles in a video stream it is given, there is no way to specify a language and the dvdauthor will create the DVD without a subtitle language specified (becomes "??" with many players). It would be nice if eg. the default subtitle language were given to dvdauthor even if dvdstyler had not found subtitles.

This has been a problem with dvdstyler as long as I remember, currently I'm using the pre-packaged dvdstyler-2.3.5-2.fc17.x86_64.rpm

What subtitle format do you have? Do you select "Copy" for subtitle stream?
Can you attach a screenshot of title properties?

What I usually do is combine video+sound+subtitles into one .mpg file:

    % mplex -V -f 8 -o /dev/stdout Horizon-pandemic.m2v Horizon-pandemic.mp2 | spumux -s 0 -m dvd Horizon-pandemic.d/spumux.xml > Horizon-pandemic-dvd.mpg

(spumux is from dvdauthor, and mplex is from mjpegtools)

Then I just load this one file into dvdstyler, and set the "just copy" checkbox. Often dvdstyler recognizes the subtitles, sometimes it does not.
