Bugs item #878390, was opened at 2004-01-16 09:10 Message generated for change (Comment added) made by bobstayton You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=373747&aid=878390&group_id=21935 Category: DocBook XSL Group: None Status: Open Resolution: Accepted Priority: 5 Submitted By: Funda Wang (fundawang) Assigned to: Robert Stayton (bobstayton) Summary: Non-user-friendly XSL for zh_CN Initial Comment: If I were wrong, just point me out. Thanx. I've found common/zh_CN.xml is not user-friendly. For example, we Chinese usually say "the 1st Chapter", rather than "Chapter 1". And the translations of some items are not correct from a publisher's view. So, I would like to provide a new gentext/locale/zh_cn. xml. There are two questions: 1. Would UTF-8 encoded xml be OK? 2. Can I translate directly from en.xml? Thanx. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Robert Stayton (bobstayton) Date: 2004-02-09 00:04 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=193218 Do you mean the second version with encoding="utf-8"? I did not check that in because it is not necessary since utf-8 is the default encoding for XML. I also thought there might be further changes since you mentioned some issues about the translation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Funda Wang (fundawang) Date: 2004-02-08 23:26 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=164667 What happened to the CVS? Did my modified version get commited into cvs? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Funda Wang (fundawang) Date: 2004-01-18 09:19 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=164667 I suggest that you add encoding="utf-8" to the <?xml?> header tag, because we usually use zh_CN.gb2312 as our locale. Or use this one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Robert Stayton (bobstayton) Date: 2004-01-17 21:56 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=193218 I checked in your new translation to CVS. Thank you. If you would like to discuss words in the gentext files and generating indexes, perhaps we could discuss it on the docbook-apps mailing list that is managed by OASIS. I think other members of the DocBook community to contribute. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Funda Wang (fundawang) Date: 2004-01-17 21:36 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=164667 Another commenet, the original en.xml confused me a lot. For example, what does "Production", "called" mean? I also have some thought of Index generation. Current one is so bad an idea for languages other than Western ones. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Funda Wang (fundawang) Date: 2004-01-17 21:26 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=164667 The one is translated from scratch, based on en.xml cvs 1.4. Please note that, I haven't put encoding attribute on <?xml?> header. You can add it via any utf-8 enabled editor. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Robert Stayton (bobstayton) Date: 2004-01-17 21:02 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=193218 I am pleased you want to improve the translation. 1. Using UTF-8 is OK. 2. Are you sure you want to start over with the en.xml file? That seems to be more work than fixing the existing zh_CN.xml file. In either case, please translate the file from the CVS tree, not the one from the distribution. The existing zh_CN.xml file in the source tree uses character entities such as 摘要 and some comments regarding GB2312 encoding. Can you download the file from CVS or do you want me to sent it to you? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Funda Wang (fundawang) Date: 2004-01-17 19:32 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=164667 Here is the modifed one. Please note that the text are encoded in UTF-8. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=373747&aid=878390&group_id=21935 |
