The concept of positional database and the training functionality is what I find really useful. When "training" an opening book, an option to force the subject to play each alternative could be useful but is missing in Bookup. More generally, you could tag moves that are "ok" or "not ok" in a given position such that there may be more than one way of playing in a puzzle or endgame, and bad moves can be listed for the explanations sake without interfering with training. There are many improvements possible along these lines, I believe. The main problem with Bookup imo (of course, besides that it is not open source), is that it has a quite poor user dialogue - to the point of user harrassment. I think we can only do better on that point... Ejner |
