Your right about the pdf. In my haste show the pdf I let it go. I should have retranslated it but I didn't. Oh well. What with my email address publish it wouldn't take much to get my web page and IP address anyhow. But thanks for the reminder. The system is setup the way my predecessor did it so I can't explain the idea behind the choices he made. * I looked at my description of my outbound mail and I neglected to put the e500 in its place it should be: Outgoing Client-->Exchange-->ASP-->e500-->Firewall-->ISP * According to the way I read the goodhosts comment: "Do this if you're running WhitelistOnly and have no plans to use the Bayesian database." It sounds like I should only check this if I don't use the Bayesian filtering, which I do. Sorry confused about why I want to check this. My Greylist is also blank. * Correct about the console option. It starts from a batch file in the startup. * I will make the change for the directory base. I assumed '.' meant the current directory from where it was launched. Worth a try though. * Relay host and port. I would imagine the only option there would be the e500's IP address and the port would be 25. I will also give this a try. The reason I haven't tried this is because I read "You only need this if your clients don't deliver mail through SMTP" and assumed I could leave it blank as we use SMTP on the e500 and exchange server. I appreciated your input and ideas. I'll give them a try and report back. Thanks again. Subject: RE: [Assp-user] Exchange, ASSP 1.09, and the Whitelist Hi Jim I've just done what I should have done from the start. I've taken a look at your config. Please note that your efforts at obscuring the password and internal addresses in a PDF are totally ineffectual: anyone with Adobe Acrobat Professional can look at the values behind the black marks. There is an interesting article about this here: http://www.planetpdf.com/mainpage.asp?webpageid=2434 <http://www.planetpdf.com/mainpage.asp?webpageid=2434> Some observations: * Relayhost and relayport are blank. This will break ASSP's outbound functionality - it will simply consider mail going out from your network as normal inbound mail. I'm surprised you haven't got a loop going... * It seems you have goodhosts enabled... this feature was superseded by the greylist. I'm not sure how enabling both will affect ASSP * ASSP is not set to run as a service. Presumably you're starting it from the command line and letting it run in a console session? * "Directory Base" is set to "." - I'm not sure if this is valid. In my configuration, it's the short file name of where I've got ASSP; i.e. C:\Progra~1\ASSP. The most important thing to fix is to set up ASSP to use Relayhost and Relayport. These should point to an SMTP service capable of delivering your outbound mail. Remember that ASSP is NOT an MTA - it cannot accept and deliver your mail for you; it can only forward it out to a smart host. Regards Jannie |
