ragnar, I would love to help out. I see you need sprites for Stendal. I did some quick sheep sketches - I was going for cute. I will work on making them into sprites with an animation set and try some for the wolf too. http://www.kpurnell.com/sheep.html

Hi samoa,
Here it is the default sprite we are using now. http://stendhal.game-server.cc/player.gif
I hope you get the idea, it is 48x64 pixels.
May you get the sheep and the wolf to match a character of that size?
Regards,
Miguel

hi miguel!
yes, I was wondering about what size to make them. Will each set of movement seqs have 3 animation frames? I think I will have fun making the sheep eat food.
ok, I will be off pixelating sheep.
- wish me luck
btw - cute sheep cartoon http://www.countyoursheep.com/d/20030611.html

is that 48 pixels high?

Inside a frame of 48 width x 64 height would be nice, but try to make sheep has a size that is related to the character we are using right now.
There is no limitation on the number of frames, and different animations can have a different number, the only rule is that width and height must be the same on all the frames.
BTW What about moving this to a new thread called Sheep GFX?

Sheeps will eat on something on bushed or on floor, no idea... on Acorn they ate acorns, on stendhal sheeps will eat ummmm.... ( ask the game designer ) ...
A tile is 32x32 or a multiplo of that amount. Map editor limitation.
But food for our sheep won't be a tile, it will be a sprite, as food runs out and you have to move deeper into the forest to look for better and more food.
Sprites can have propierties ( aka they are game objects ) but tiles are just eyecandies and only are useful for collision detection.

...sheeps eat grass. Lots of it. Sometimes they eat even more grass. And daffodil. Actually, daffodil are a reference to Ultima 6 (the subterranean graveyard at Trinsic). And yes, grass, muuuuch grass. And they are very careful to not leave the soil blank, they let enough to regrow. Bjrn Borg would have liked to have some sheep where he hit a ball or two. Actally sheep are told to eat heather/erica/ling, but daffodil are fine for me. Uh, perhaps it ain't daffodil, but dandelions, but hey, who cares? They are both yellow, little flowers, aren't they.

Any more questions?

Ok prof rangar, thank you for your dissertation. The grass, dandelions and daffidols are power up items, tall grass being the most modiocre one but more plentiful?

No, I don't think it would make sense for sheep to die from lack of food in a persistent world cause if you log out for a while when you logged back in your sheep would all be dead. maybe you should have to pen them before you sign off so the wolves won't kill them while your logged off.
You sell your big fat sheep to buy weapons and armor with which you can defend your sheep and yourself from wolves. When you get enough weapons and armor you go to the wolf cave and kick wolf butt.

Perhaps you find randomly dropped acorns as you move around stendhal which you can accumulate and trade for a sheep. If player dies, they lose all thier acorns. Entry point could be safe area - player should pen sheep and return to safe area before they log off.

Can I assume that this screenshot is true to size?
http://arianne.sourceforge.net/screens/stendhal/20050303_stendhal.jpg
Yes, it is the true size.
But again, we can change it if it is needed
I did a very quick and dirty sheep to figure out size. http://www.kpurnell.com/images/sheep04.jpg
Does it need to be smaller?
It is fine, but it would be a bit better IMO if it is around 20%-30% smaller.. it doesn't need to cover the whole 48x64 area.
He'll need something to eat. What's a good grass tile size?
Sheeps will eat on something on bushed or on floor, no idea... on Acorn they ate acorns, on stendhal sheeps will eat ummmm.... ( ask the game designer ) ...

I like dandelion.
yummy daffodil...

Is there a forum where I can post with images?
No,but if you find it a need I can look for a way, either PHPBB or other.
I am going to be offline for one more week...
http://www.kpurnell.com/images/plants01.jpg
It is nice, but I think that a few simple red balls would do the job in the same way.
nevermind, this is fine as long as you can follow me
Wait, I'll find a place in the twiki.
Ok prof rangar, thank you for your dissertation. The grass, dandelions and daffidols are power up items, tall grass being the most modiocre one but more plentiful?
Ragnar... sorry, dang.
and I can assume the sheep can die from lack of power ups or wolf attack?
Yes, it will die of wolves attacks.
No lack of food death though
will wolf cave be a dungeon?
Not by now,but could be in the future.
Stendhal is an open game and things are prone to change...
Mainly world size and areas.
No, I don't think it would make sense for sheep to die from lack of food in a persistent world cause if you log out for a while when you logged back in your sheep would all be dead. maybe you should have to pen them before you sign off so the wolves won't kill them while your logged off.

Exactly...
Sheeps would only die of wolves ( or other players :D ) attacks.
Perhaps you find randomly dropped acorns as you move around stendhal which you can accumulate and trade for a sheep. If player dies, they lose all thier acorns. Entry point could be safe area - player should pen sheep and return to safe area before they log off.
