Featured projects, week of June 4th

This week, we’re featuring a number of more techie-focused projects, including several security apps and developer tools. And, as always, there’s a couple of games in the mix.

• Endian Firewall Community

  Endian Firewall is a “turn-key” linux security distribution that turns every system into a full featured security appliance. It features stateful packet filtering, proxies, antivirus/antispam, content filtering and a VPN module.

• Notepad++ Compare plugin

  Comparison plugin for Notepad++ editor.

• Golly, a Game of Life simulator

  A cross-platform application for exploring Conway’s Game of Life and other cellular automata. Features include bounded and unbounded universes, fast generating algorithms, Perl/Python scripting, and a state-of-the-art pattern collection.

• dispy

  dispy is a Python framework for parallel execution of computations by distributing them across multiple processors in a single machine (SMP), among many machines in a cluster or grid. The computations can be standalone programs or Python functions. dispy is implemented with asyncoro, an independent framework for developing concurrent programs with asynchronous (non-blocking) sockets and coroutines (without threads) using polling mechanisms epoll, kqueue, devpoll and poll, and Windows I/O Completion Ports (IOCP), for high performance and scalability.

• Network Spoofer

  Network Spoofer lets you mess with the internet on other people’s computers from an Android phone.

• OrangeHRM – Human Resource Management

  OrangeHRM is an Open Source Human Resource Management System that covers Personnel Information Management, Employee Self Service, Leave, Time & Attendance, Benefits, and Recruitment. Tags: HRM, HRMS, HCM, HRIS, EHRMS, Human Capital Management

• trixbox

  trixbox CE is an easy to install, VOIP phone system based on the Asterisk PBX. trixbox is designed for home or office use. trixbox CE includes CentOS linux, mysql, and all the tools needed to run a business quality phone system. (formerly asterisk@home)

• UltraStar Deluxe

  Karaoke game inspired by the Singstar™ game available on the Playstation®. It allows up to six players to sing along with music using microphones in order to score points, depending on the pitch of the voice and the rhythm of singing.
