Apache OpenOffice Templates New Site

By Community Team

We are proud to announce a new Apache OpenOffice Templates site, incorporating many of the same improvements as the new new Apache OpenOffice Extensions website.

A quick summary of the improvements:

1. We’ve added content, and made numerous changes to better serve the needs of template providers and handle the growth of end-users. For example, new Templates are now published to the new aootemplates Twitter account, make sure to follow it to stay up-to-date.

2. The look & feel has been updated to match the new AOO 4 aesthetic.

3. Search has been improved and it now provides the autocomplete functionality, see the example below:

I’ve been happily using OpenOffice for some time. So far, the only extension I’ve used is the spell checker.

As all I do is text documents, why should I add this extension?

@MSgt Dale Day  The Templates website provide you with a selection of OpenOffice templates, check out the most popular on the home page for some inspiration or typewrite in the search box something you might need (e.g. resume, invoice or planner). Same thing for extensions, for example you might want to give a try  to the Oracle PDF Import extension or the OpenOffice.org2GoogleDocs to import/export to Google Docs.

And shame on sourceforge for messing up my settings by ignoring my choices to reject bing and a whole load of other stuff. And you have lost all my Firefox tabs. I will NEVER use this site again.

  5. Stugo says:

Looks like the delta search virus came from downloading Open Office. Thanks a lot for wasting several hours of my day.

  6. galoppini says:

@Stugo Apache OpenOffice doesn’t bundle any malware or virus, just make sure to download it from http://openoffice.org, don’t trust other sites.

  7. Stugo says:

@galoppini The link on OpenOffice was to Source Forge and there were all sorts of options for Bing toolbar and many other “extras” to which I refused all, but got them all anyway, and more.

  8. Stugo says:

@galoppini Fortunately, I’m buying a new PC this week anyway and did a full backup last week, so things worked out well!

  9. galoppini says:

@Stugo  SourceForge do serve Apache OpenOffice downloads but there is no bundle. What you are describing must have happened somewhere else.

The improvements look fine. The appearance has become a bit better. Improving search function should be really helpful as poor search results only lead to disappointment for user. Autocomplete functionality is a real time saver. Filling data in every single field is also cumbersome and boring. Users should be spending their time on more advanced tasks rather than simply filling in basic information.
