Attached is a prefix macro that I wrote over thirty years ago. It was worked on numerous versions of THE -- though it has required changes over the years. This is working for THE 3.3RC7 on a CentOS 7 system.

One way to do it. In your Linux home directory, create a file called '.therc' -- that will be used as the profile.

Van Dyke Software's product SecureCRT version 8.5.4 does not handle the ECMA-48 REP (Repeat) control sequence. Ncurses 6.1 now emits this control sequence for xterm (see http://www.gnu.org/software/ncurses/ncurses.html ) The vendor is considering this as a feature request.

So this is NOT a BUG for The Hessling Editor -- I pointed the finger at the wrong software. It's a bug with the Terminal Emulator that I have used (and paid for) for years! ncurses has changed with RHEL 8 /CentOS 8 . My apologies to Mark, please close this bug (non-bug) report.

The problem/issue described above is with TERM=xerm. On the same system (different terminal emulator) with TERM=xterm-256color, this is NOT an issue. That's helpful to me.
